What is a weighted blanket

A weighted blanket looks like a regular blanket, but has a much higher weight due to its filling.

With more and more people experiencing stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, insomnia, weighted blankets are increasingly the preferred choice over other types of duvets due to the beneficial effects on sleep quality. They come in different weights and sizes, as well as a variety of materials, from synthetic to natural outer layer and from plastic to glass beads filling.

Weighted blankets are not a recent discovery. They have been used for decades in therapy to effectively treat people who suffer from insomnia, stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, ADD, restless leg syndrome, autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson.

In fact, the light duvets most of us use today have replaced heavier ones which were made with a variety of fillings.

The gentle blanket is an investment in your sleep, health and wellbeing.

How it works

Using a weighted blanket triggers what is called Deep Touch Pressure, a simple yet efficient therapeutic procedure. By applying even, gentle pressure on your body regulates the level of cortisol (stress hormone) and increases the endorphin levels. It also releases serotonin and dopamine (happy hormones) and stimulates parts of the brain that are responsible for the production of melatonin which helps you sleep. People who use a weighted blanket say they feel safe, calm and grounded.

It usually takes around 3 days to get used to the gentle blanket, however in some cases it may take a little longer. If after 3 days you haven't fully adjusted yet, try using it on the couch for a few hours or cover only the lower parts of the body.
